    based on wilsons links i read and followed the guide by turning off apps/services that may prevent a spindown.

    i also ran the script to detect what processes may be actively preventing the spindown.
    but looking at the results, all i see is mention of raid :/ but in qts i do not see anything like raid rebuild, or bad block scanning, or any smartinfo tests being done.
    So i have no clue what the heck that is all about, or what processes that is :/
    In app center i only have the following enabled
    - qsirch
    - jre
    - myqnapcloud ssl
    - media streaming add-on
    - webserver also enabled (its not actively hosting a website meaning no scripts/plugins to worry about here. is mostly for apps that need it enabled when i come around to using it.)

    Why the hard drive of NAS does not go to standby mode?

    First of all, make sure you have enabled the 'disk standby mode' function in System Tools/ Hardware Settings on the administration page. If the function does not work according to your settings, you may check if the following services are running. There must NOT be any access to these services for the HDD standby mode to work.
    UPnP/Twonkymedia function on NAS
    NTP server
    BT download
    Microsoft Networking -> AD service, WINS server, Domain Master
    Share folder mapping
    Network access to the NAS. If the NAS is connecting to Internet, make sure you don’t enable DMZ or port forwarding on your router/firewall. Hacker may try to connect your NAS and thus prevent HDDs to entering standby.
    QNAP Finder, Quick Install Wizard, NetBak Replication, QGet. These programs will keep checking the existence of the NAS and prevent it to entering standby.
    If your NAS is shared among multiple PC on the same network, be sure there is no access from the PC to the NAS. You can disconnect the LAN cable to assure this.
    If you have installed add-on programs like squeezebox or QPKG on your NAS, the HDD standby mode of QNAP NAS might not function since these programs might affect the service access status to the NAS.
    If you have copy a lot of pictures to the NAS, the NAS will create the thumbnail files for the pictures. This may take a long time (even days if there are many pictures). You can see a running process “/usr/local/sbin/ImR_all -soft /Qmultimedia” after issue ps command. Please wait patiently for this process to complete.
    If you still have problem, please connect the NAS by ssh port 22 or telnet port 13131 and issue ps
    command. This will show all the running procedures.

    Can i leave bonjour and DLNA enabled ? Or is that something i should disable ?
    Also under system settings > power > wake on lan ( should this be disabled ?)
    my current nas setup is not going to be used for running apps/services 24/7, but only for media streaming when i want to open a video or music file.
    So like 80% of the time per day, i don't really forsee the NAS needing actual usage, so i rather it be spindown for those instances. Of course in a situation where access is very frequent, maybe spindown may be counter productive. but i don't think it will be in my case.
    LED status is mentioned here

    where it says if spindown was working correctly, then LED should not be showing, to indicate drive is not currently active aka spindown. But my unit shows all leds green steady weak light (non blinking).
    also my last question is, how do i remove blkdevMonitor.sh once i've done using it ? The guide doesn't really mention that.
